They account for 2/3 of my music trilogy. Add in Iris DeMent for the third magical voice.

I was fortunate to catch them on tour together many moons ago. Iris still comes east every couple of years or so and plays in small, intimate venues where she "meets and greets", but John hasn't been nearby in a while. Checking his schedule, it seems he was about to embark on a world tour, so this bout of COVID-19 will be a big disappointment to both John and his many fans.

We're praying John pulls through this. It's way too soon to lose him.

ETA: Thanks for pulling that video out of the vault. One of the best! (Lordy, the lyrics to that song are hilarious!)

is "Daddy and Them". It's hilarious. Billy Bob Thornton, John Prine, Diane Ladd, Andy Griffith, Laura Dern, Kelly Preston, A young Walton Goggins, Jim Varney and too many more to mention. It's worth the watch if you ever get the chance.

That's outrageous. I think I bought my copy on ebay, probably around 10 years ago. If I had any way to make a copy for you, I would.

I found one on ebay, used, starting at $9.99. No bids on it yet. The crook wants almost $8 to ship it too though.

and it is also available in the form that plays on European players.

Just checked back and found on in one of those weird combo DVDs for $13.96 plus shipping from TX. I am thinking about it.

Thanks for the copy offer. I miss VHS for that reason. You could record something and share.

When I first saw the movie I wasn't aware that Prine was in it. As the movie went along I said myself, "gee, that guy looks very familiar", so I checked on IMDB and sure enough, it was John! Of course that made the movie instantly better.

I originally bought it because Laura Dern and Billy Bob were engaged at the time, and wanted to see them together in the movie. Then along came Angelina Jolie. She more than met her match with Billy Bob though. Then she went on to ruin other relationships. It really is a funny movie. I'm sure you'd enjoy it.

he is a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. I am 70.

Maybe it would be interesting if we all listed that soundtrack for ourselves or to share. Mine is pretty varied and I suspect yours is as well.

Sadly, my boyfriend is now deceased. I still cry when I hear “Tangled up in Blue” and “Simple Twist of Fate”. I hear Otis Redding and I’m back in college. Aretha’s “Natural Woman”. Got into jazz after seeing Miles Davis at the Hollywood Bowl open for Blood Sweat and Tears. All of the great R&B when I was in high school. I was at Woodstock. When it comes to music, we were the luckiest generation. Don’t know how I would have survived without it.

There is a long story about that. But my clock radio was set to wake me up and played Maggie May every morning. I hear that song and I am back in that trailer out in the country by myself, heading to a job for which I was not qualified. Lonely and angry at all the racism.
