When the Twin City Labor Council refused to recognize the MPLS Police Federation, that was the last straw needed.

I know a strike is probably illegal but do "blue flu" outbreaks loom?

However, it is important to understand that this conversation would not be taken seriously without the Damocles-ian sword of defunding hanging over the heads of police departments everywhere. This "come to Jesus" moment is the fruit of cooperative, single minded notification from the public in their passion and the media acting in it's own best interests. If nothing else comes of this perhaps the media will continue acting on the facts that it doesn't need to play electoral "horse race" games or vomit nonsensical both-siderist equivocation in order to maintain relevance or ratings. I'm hoping the media will step up and tell the facts on a more regular basis.

Again, the air is thin up on this soap box. May be raving.

It's the union contracts which have been crippling attempts to reform the police since, oh, forever. But this - and New York repealing the law about police misconduct cases being sealed for 50 years - these things will help. I asked a former cop (a god apple) about unions and got the suggestion that it should be enshrined into law that no union contract should ne allowed to rob the people of justice. I'm sure that's not appropriate verbiage to put into a law, but the goal of it is right on the money.
