But today's questions are too important to not know about.
One more thing.
After this is all over, if there are enough Democrats in the Senate to keep a majority,
I seriously, passionately, want Sheldon Whitehouse nominated for the U.S. Supreme Court.

(4,832 posts)A lot of people are so busy in their younger, kid raising years, establishing their careers etc. that they don't have time to look into how things really are.
I'm an optimist. I still have hope. I watched my 90 year old Dad decide voting for W. Bush in 2004 was not what his ol' Republican self was going to do....and in 2008? Yes. Obama!

(28,477 posts)Seriously, though. I think she respects him. She doesn't interact with any of the other Democrats this way. Sometimes Whitehouse would say things and she'd flick a glance at Graham. Like Whitehouse knows whose money is behind this and how that person/group was presented to her as benign. At the end it was almost as though she was an earnest pupil gone astray, and he was her wise mentor, clueing her in what's really going on. Her expressions throughout indicated the wheels-a-turnin' in her head.
But of course she's a handmaiden and will ultimately do whatever backroom deal her husband tells her to do.

(36,085 posts)Re her handmaiden status... I believe when she's in her work, she's free from him to be her best self. I think she'll want to pay closer to the internal workings of right wing encroachments on people's rights. She knows that she can't ever consult again with the legislative branch, that this time with Whitehouse is a powerful reminder of forces around the Court, and she'll come to appreciate the insights and judgments of of Kagan and Sotomayor. Like other Republican appointees, she might end up being the kind of disappointment they've been.

(2,065 posts)Of course, Senator Whitehouse would make a fine Supreme Court Justice, but when I was watching this video, I was thinking that a more important mission for him might be in the reform of our federal court system, to find and implement legislative ways to make the federal courts, including the Supreme Court, less vulnerable to the deceitful tactics of dark money operations. The guy has an absolutely encyclopedic knowledge of the law!

(36,085 posts)You're absolutely right that he is invaluable to a Democratic majority's efforts toward keeping Dark Money out of the federal courts. There's so much to fix in this government, that fixing the courts can only help the government's new shifts toward climate change and attendant pandemic problems -- and the corporate suits that will follow -- stay stable and consistent over time.
