Remember when the liberals/moderates of both parties passed progressive legislation, Bill? Under Nixon? I do. That Party died with Reagan.

but the crazies will coalesce around the party that they perceive as the best chance for foisting repressive policies on minorities and anyone else they don’t like. A reorganized repug party will still draw the crazies like flies to shit.

It will be decades before they can consolidate and take the presidency or control congress. It'll be a street fight I will enjoy watching.

A gentleman, not confrontational, tried to get things done in a compromising manner. Very much of Joe Biden's generation in Congress.

They would have to know that any split among Repugs will doom any near term chance to govern at the national level. Maybe even similar for state wide races if the new party pulls more than 10% as so many races are so close. But I would love to see some decent folks of a conservative bent bring back the concept of sanity and good faith in a loyal opposition one can reasonably negotiate with, compared to the just scorched earth whackadoodles. DNC hasn't done great with the Dem brand through now two Presidential elections and just being "other" in concept, political rhetoric and anti-Trump but not actually able to get much done, does not bode well. Getting rid of Trump and his evil minions certainly was Task 1, but its just a start.
