2. As Democratic Odysseuses Try to Journey Back to the Ithaca of American Democracy,

Republicans are still being seduced by the siren call of fascism and autocracy, in numbers that are way too large for the safety of our republic. It continues to confound and amaze me that:

1) That so many Republicans are willing to go so far in supporting and enabling the totalitarian fantasies of a narcissistic egomaniac.
2) That so many people voted for this lying cheating, corrupt, incompetent, treasonous POS Trump, even to the extent of worshiping him, trusting and believing every word he says, and considering him to be the best president ever.
3) That so many people in this country have shown, by their electoral actions and behavior, that they actually prefer autocracy to democracy - even though I fear that they will never really appreciate the democracy that was ours until they have lost it.

Frankly, I don't know exactly how long this Republican flirtation with fascism will continue, but as far as I can see, there appears to be no end in sight. This is another reason for going hard on Trump and zealously pursuing his prosecution for the myriad high crimes he has committed while in office. For one thing, maybe many of his Republican supporters - the more reasonable ones at least, will start to wake up, put two and two together, and realize that their dear leader was no more than a con man and a criminal. Secondly, if Trump is constantly in and out of court fighting his legal battles, or better yet, is behind bars or in a padded cell where he really needs to be, he won't be able to pursue his seditious political activities. Heck - even if he decides not to run in 2024, he just might play the role of a Republican kingmaker behind the scenes - and that would still be very dangerous and corrosive to our democracy. The best place for Donald Trump, as far as our country is concerned, is to be put out of circulation in one way or another. And thirdly, whatever Trump gets away with, he, or someone else inspired by him, who may be even more intelligent and capable, will try to get away with in the future. In reality, there is no shortcut to thorough prosecution of Trump for his crimes; if we try to sweep it under the rug now, it will only come back to bite us in the butt later, and probably with even more disastrous consequences.

Cyclops and all.

As to how long the GOPee's fascist funk will last - my guess is that it'll last as long as Big Business' yen for Mussolini-style governance does.

With many exceptions, of course - but as you know, in general they've never been comfy with the idea of democracy.

Many see it as little more than just another obstacle to get around - and Repugs as their natural allies in getting around it.

That said, Happy New Year to you and yours Panfluteman. Thanks again for the reply - one for the bookmarks!
