It might not be the farm's fault, as the operators of White's Ferry seem to be dicks.

(21,718 posts)I don't cross often, but it was a nice shortcut. I've transported dogs across it, met people on the other side. It's been there as long as I remember.

(11,348 posts)to this situation at all. First off, it's just flatly incorrect to state (per Youtube vid) that this ferry had been in operation for 230 years. It's clearly stated that this ferry began operations in 1947 -- at which time they entered into a legal agreement with the owners of the land. And since that time, the ferry operator has clearly abrogated.
There might be some conceivable historical claim or coverage involved here -- but intransigence and sheer belligerence toward both the courts and the other legal parties does not constitute either "freedom", "mah' rights" -- or any manner of real legal claim or argument. It's too bad that the public is being deprived a service because the owners were so supremely pigheaded -- but that's about the size of it.
