(2,496 posts)I assumed after spending a year talking about how Trump wouldnt leave office that now he would come on and gloat or feel bad that it came this close. Instead he brought on Kelly Ann Conway and positioned himself to criticize the liberals. Totally self-serving.

(51,569 posts)His whiney rant about his solar system was total bullshit. I live in Southern California and had no regulatory delays whatsoever installing solar panels on my roof. My contractor put up my 36 solar panels in two days. There must be more to his "solar shed" story than he is telling us. And people aren't leaving California because of regulations. They're leaving because they can't afford to buy a house here. California is a victim of its own desirability. Property values, and rents, have gone through the roof.
And he was wrong, the loan that dead insurrectionist Ashli Babbitt had was not Californias fault. California can't prevent people from getting bad loans from out of state companies like EBF Partners. That's what the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was supposed to be policing. But under Trump it was de-fanged and rendered leaderless.
Regardless, her bad loan is not why she supported Trump and stormed the Capitol. She was a violent, unhinged woman. In 2016, Mr. Babbitts former girlfriend applied to a court for a protection order, telling the court that Ms. Babbitt, then known as Ashli McEntee, had approached her on a roadway and had rear-ended her car three times.
She was screaming at me and verbally threatening, the complaint says. The court granted a protection order. The following year, the former girlfriend again applied for a protection order, which the court granted. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/07/us/who-was-ashli-babbitt.html
It was the year after that, in 2017, that Ashli took out the costly short-term business loan Maher referenced. Yes, in effect, it meant her pool business would have to pay an interest rate that she later calculated in court filings to be 169 percent. But her real problem with that loan is she didn't even come close to paying back the principal, never mind the interest. Within days of signing the loan agreement, she stopped making payments, only repaying about $3,400 of the $65,000 borrowed from EBF Partners, records show. The lender naturally sued her. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/07/us/who-was-ashli-babbitt.html. It looks like Ashli ripped off EBF, not the other way around.

The last time Republican Bill Maher appeared, he was complaining about Californias income taxes and suggested he might move out of state soon. He never did.

(29,322 posts)I looked at houses in the Southeast and you can find affordable large homes but after the riots not so sure. I know some of the rioters came from my state but I live in a blue area.
I knew Maher wouldn't take this seriously. I can't believe he said again to not see them as deplorables.

(31,173 posts)Maher is saying he understands the frustration and anger.
Whether it's about excessive business loans, red tape, or the price of health care, that anger has been percolating for decades. The "system" is morally bankrupt and nearly criminal, fueled by the out-of-control greed of the one percent, corporations and special interests.
Hell, I'm livid too.
Thanks for posting Rhiannon12866.

(205,467 posts)We certainly had problems even before Trump and these were certainly the most glaring ones. So as long as we're going to the mighty effort of cleaning up after all the damage that Trump has left us with, it's important that we right these lingering wrongs.

(29,322 posts)I would never try to overthrow the federal government over it. They're extremists.
I don't buy class had anything to do with it. They were unhappy Trump lost so they tried to overthrow the government for a Trump dictatorship. No sympathy from me for extremists.
They traveled to DC and got hotel rooms. Most struggling people can't afford to do that.
I'm also an Arizona voter that would like my vote to count. The riot reached inside the Capitol while they objected to Arizona's electoral votes. Fuck the traitors.

(31,173 posts)but I believe most of this extremist behavior was created. Or maybe a better word is nurtured. Trump was one of the tools.
