Slip-sliding away
Slip-sliding away
You know, the nearer the inauguration
The more you're slip-sliding away.
I know a man,
he comes from New York town.
He thinks that Fox News gave him the right to wear a crown.
He cries, Ivanka, I have great fear
,
The vote for Biden was overpowering
I dont know how to make it disappear."
Slip-sliding away
Slip-sliding away
You know, the nearer the inauguration
The more you're slip-sliding away.
Slip-sliding away,
slip-sliding away
He met a woman,
made her his wife
.
And then she found to her dismay that he was in her life
.
She said, a good day, hes not around.
She said, a bad days when hes very close
.
And I am warned that I should not make a sound.
Slip-sliding away
Slip-sliding away
You know, the nearer the inauguration
The more you're slip-sliding away.
And just like father,
theres the son.
He longed to tell him all the reasons hes not number one.
He thought a long time how to explain.
He said, the kid will never get it,
Then he turned around and tweeted once more again.
Slip-sliding away
Slip-sliding away
You know, the nearer the inauguration
The more you're slip-sliding away.
Now Pence thought he knows
when Trump makes his plan.
Well, he found out at the Capitol when it hit the fan.
Were losing our jobs,
we lose our pay
.
And even Georgia told him "Get lost"
So they don't go slip-sliding away.
Slip-sliding away
Slip-sliding away
You know, we chose to save our nation
not send it slip-sliding away.
Slip-sliding away
Slip-sliding away
You know, we chose to save our nation
not send it slip-sliding away.

Biden won by 306 electoral votes to 232 electoral votes
State (Electoral Votes) Biden's victory margin
Arizona (11) 10,457
Georgia (16) 11,779
Wisconsin (10) 20,608
Nebraska-CD2 (1) 22,091
Nevada (6) 33,596
If Trump won just 42,844 more votes combined in Arizona, Georgia, and Wisconsin, he would have gained 37 electoral votes and tied Biden 269 votes to 269 votes. 10,457 + 11,779 + 20,608 = 42,844
If Trump had additionally won Nebraska CD-2, he would have been the winner -- so just 64,935 votes across 4 states would have given him the win, by 2 EV, 270 to 268.
Or rather than Nebraska CD-2, if he had won Nevada, he would have also been the winner -- so with just 76,440 votes across 4 states, by 12 EV, 275 to 263
Vote margins from New York Times https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/11/03/us/elections/results-president.html
They didn't have the Nebraska or Maine congressional districts so I got those from NBC https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-elections/nebraska-president-results
I got my numbers from both sites today, 1/18/21
This is an even closer margin than Clinton's 2016 margin where she would have needed something like just a combined 78,000 votes across 3 states (Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania) to win the electoral college, something that has often been mentioned.
Maybe this is a greedbanger rightie-right talking point, I don't know, I just think we shouldn't be complacent. The electoral college is very much gerrymandered*, and we cleared the bar by a few very small margins against an obviously evil madman.
Imagine what would have been the outcome if there had been no pandemic.
Imagine if some 3rd party fuckheads had screwed things up in some of these close states
Yes, Clinton won the popular vote by 2.8 million IIRC, and Biden by 7.06 million per New York Times visit today. Which is great, but just shows how a popular vote spread can be huge for the Democrat, while the electoral college loss or victory margin is well under a combined 100,000 total votes in a few swing states. This in an election where more than 155 million voted for either Biden or Trump.
*I've been taken to task for using gerrymandered as an adjective describing the Electoral College and the Senate. Technically, I know gerrymander is a term used to describe the drawing of congressional and legislative districts in a biased manner. But I use the term loosely to also describe the greater weighting of voters in less populous states on a per-person basis in the Electoral College and the Senate, which overall favors the Repukes. (Especially the Senate, where just 16% of the population is represented by 50% of the senators.)
