(32,017 posts)Sadly, she recited it too quickly. With a slower cadence, it would have had greater impact.
I recommend reading it. Its awesome.

(6,265 posts)yet a poet extraordinaire. I felt and hoped on EVERY word on healing, reconciliation and promise. Like liquid honey. Ms Gorman is A force in her own right. And that a force for good. I saw and heard why she was an excellent choice at this time in our country. Quite the Poetic Invocation. to ms. Gorman.

(7,639 posts)We have a Poet Laureate?
Duh, I've been hanging out with the wrong crowd I guess to have somehow missed out on that appointment but I've a feeling I'm not the only one.
That was an incredible and inspirational speech/poem she delivered that will certainly have folks digging into her material more and she'll undoubtedly receive more attention now, and deservedly so.

(7,396 posts)Amanda said she wanted to wear her yellow coat and Oprah helped with the earrings and the ring.
The large ring was a "Caged Bird" in honor of Maya Angelou.
Sweet.
