Many of us knew Trump was a phoney years ago. The evidence was there.

Big Blue Marble
(5,151 posts)The publicity around his failures oddly still looks like he is a big player milking the system
over and over (which he is best at.) And many were unfortunately were and are still
entranced with the myth.
My question is how did such an obnoxious operation command so much airtime on
national TV news? it was all free publicity that led to our current nightmare.

(111,367 posts)or do anything else for them. They saw him as a Molotov cocktail into the heart of the business as usual model both parties had engaged in for far too many years. That's what they wanted changed and burning it down as an act of desperation seemed like the way to go.
That he burned down all the wrong things doesn't seem to occur to any of them.

(5,151 posts)th myth is that he is far richer and more powerful than he is. The myth
that was expanded with his books in the nineties and then Tha Apprentice
even later. All laying the foundation for his successful run.

(111,367 posts)and that Putin had him running scared because Putin holds the purse strings, or at least knows who really does. Dumdum has had two talents: self promotion and being able to cajole large sums of money out of men who knew better
Most of his gambling over the years has been with other people's money. Ir will be interesting to find out just how much of his father's fortune he still has. We won't know until his 5 offspring line up with their hands out after he kicks the bucket..
I think he'll be damned lucky to be able to hold onto that marble monstrosity in NY and MaraLardo. I'm sure the rest of it is going to be sold off, he hopes quietly.
Some one ages ago wisely said he is the stupid man's image of a smart man, a poor man's image of a rich man, and a failure's image of a successful man. They're all illusions.
Still, I thought he was put into office to burn it all down. I still think that.

siblings. Once he got that and was out in the world it just drained through his fingers in big money deals he was way over his head in.
The Russians sized him up good though and courted him for years with cash infusions. I wonder how much he still owes them?
I have a feeling that debt is going to be coming due soon. He'd better stay away from high windows. Best to get a food taster too and you know who likes to poison his people.

(9,350 posts)I am not sure reporting like this would have helped in 2016 and I know these clips are from the 1990s, but I wish the media would have done more reporting like this in 2016. I do not think the media reported enough, in 2016, that Trump did not own most of the buildings that held his name, how much money he borrowed, how much of his business ventures failed, or how poorly his businesses had been managed. The American people needed to know that Donald Trump was not the great businessman he made himself out to be.
