(595 posts)Watch the video. Airline pilots train for this kind of problem and aircraft are designed to fly on one engine. Airline travel is clearly the safest mode of transportation.

(16,209 posts)and head back to DEN than to have this happen hundreds of miles from land. I agree it is safe, and this would not deter me from traveling by air after Covid is more controlled.

(903 posts)You can see that the turbine core is intact and continues to windmill. This probably wouldn't happen if it was a turbine blade failure, as it would most likely take out the core. The burning part looks like the vents for the reverse thrust ducts, which may have been ignited during the failure. Not a good day, but it looks like it failed in a controlled manner, which is what it's designed to do.

(14,494 posts)he always follows these initial reports with all the NTSB's interim and final reports as they are issued. The final may take a year or more to be made public.
He made several on the Kobe Bryant helicopter crash that were good.
