He owns a home in Hendersonville.
He has not paid his property taxes on that home. They were due in September. Since he had no job before January, I'm not sure how he afforded the mortgage on his $425K home.
He is dangerously ignorant.

Cawthorn is pissing off his local republican handlers, too. He won't be re-elected. I'm holding out hope he'll be indicted on seditious conspiracy, too.

(6,207 posts)But I could not find a job that recognizes military medics training and skills. Granted, this was in the 1960s, the Vietnam war raging, and the life-saving skills medics were taught and allowed to use were far more advanced than civilian laws would allow even today.
For example, how would the Congressman apply a tourniquet to treat a pneumothorax?
Or treat severe abdominal gunshot wounds?
Or treat a possible broken neck or back without doing more harm.
Or maintain an open airway, or treat severe burns.
The best thing the Congressman can do to save lives is to support ALL FEDERAL funding for EMS services. Train and adequately pay EMT and Paramedics. Fund these services in all small communities with FEDERAL dollars.
And to save lives in rural areas, upgraded cell services and 911 service to reach every area. So in the advent of an accident, the first life-saving measure would be to dial 911 and get TRAINED help on the way.
ONE FINAL POINT PASS LEGISLATION THAT ALLOWS MILITARY COMBAT MEDIC TO MOVE TO CIVILIAN PARAMEDICS JOBS without insulting their skills by sending them back be RETRAINED.

(57,607 posts)In northern Virginia, it's offered by the local community college. The college has many campuses, and the one with the medical training is not the most convenient one for me.
People who want to be EMTs and people who want to be paramedics start out with the same training. If all you want is the basic EMT training, you bail out after a semester. If you want to be a paramedic, you're in training for five semesters.
Before I looked into the courses, I was not aware of the distinction between EMTs and paramedics.
It didn't matter, as all the openings had been filled.
I do have to agree with Cawthorn that a basic level of training is not a bad idea. All I wanted was enough training not to be useless at the scene of a traffic accident. I wan't looking for a job as either an EMT or a paramedic.
Thanks for writing.

(6,207 posts)... the 911 operator asks. This will help them to dispatch the proper equipment.
I won't attempt to tell you what to do next because the situation may change depending on what is happening.
Here is one simple example. If it is a car accident, you might not want to do anything other than try and comfort the injured, apply pressure to severe bleeding, and tell them EMTs are on the way. BUT if the car was to be on fire, you might need to get the injured OUT to a safe spot. BUT it possible that a back or neck injury might be made worse by moving a patient. BUT it is better than leaving them to burn in a car that is on fire.
This is where training will help you triage (evaluate) all the factors.
Most people have a tourniquet on them or handy. For example, your belt, scarf, rope, and strap on a pocketbook are examples of a usable tourniquet. If you do apply a tourniquet, NOTE THE TIME so you can tell the EMT or paramedics.
What I always carry in my car and or in a fanny pack is rubber (surgical) gloves in a sealed ziplock bag. To protect yourself and the injured party from blood-borne diseases. Good safe first aide requires some training and PRACTICE!

(1,406 posts)Combat triage now is quick clot. Tampons work great for bullet holes.
Almost never due turniquets now unless it is the only way to save their life, no more realeasing it every few hours. Once on it stays on and bound.

The 'humane' thing to do is to make sure shootings don't happen, surely?
But if you must have them, some religious training so bystanders can give the last rites to the deceased would be useful, I guess.
Plus the bandages, and the O neg bottles. And body bags.
Don't forget the concealed carry firearms so you can join in the fun!
I think we are all set for the next one. The next mass shooting, that is.
History will judge this one harshly, I hope.

(4,907 posts)Tourniquets and bandages don't work on things like sucking chest wounds,
Or exit wounds the size of a softball (wound that often occurs when a bullet from an assault weapon begins to tumble),
Or head wounds.
Then he needs to be told what he said would be considered idiotic back in the day when you needed a ramrod to load a rifle or pistol.
