(16,937 posts)Rickey lived in Penn Hills, PA. early on in his career. He worked his way up to US Senator from Pennsylvania and moved to the DC area (actually, Virginia), buying a multi-million dollar home for him and his family.
However, he also owned a 2-bedroom bungalow in Penn Hills and enrolled his kids in a cyber school that the district in Pennsylvania would have to pay for because of his 'claim' of living there.
"Santorum, although living in Leesburg, Virginia with his family, claimed residency in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania. The cost of the educating Santorums children in Virginia ran the Penn Hills School District a bill just over $100,000."
This was fraud/theft - whatever you want to call it. Yet this self-righteous prick insisted on screwing over a school district that already struggles to meet budget demands - and he flaunts his right to do so.
Check the following:

How the public-school-loathing GOP candidate used Pennsylvanias taxpayer dollars to school his kids in Virginia.

He enrolled his children for a time in a Pennsylvania cyber charter school and insisting that taxpayers there pay for it, even though his children lived primarily in another state.

The former Senator may have homeschooled his children, but taxpayers footed the bill.
This "rob the schools" issue is only one of the things that makes Rickey special. There are already other posts here at DU that address other issues - also worthy of consideration.
I spent over 35 years in the Pennsylvania school system. I LOTHE people that scam the system that struggles to get funding to meet the needs of the kids of PENNSYLVANIA (not Virginia!).

(2,698 posts)and utterly devoid of intellect when he proudly told the story of his grandfather (maybe great grandfather) working for a coal company, in the "good old days", that paid its laborers in company scrip -- and he mentioned it as an example of the charitable generosity of the company!
Never heard, this fly-speck of a man, never heard of the great Tennessee Ernie Fords rendition of 16 Tons with the line which probably still strikes a painfully bitter chord in the heart of Santorums grandfather (or great grandfather) wherever he may be:
St. Peter doncha call me cause I caint go/ I owe my soul to the company sto
Santorums praise of scrip is akin to the grandson (or great grandson) of a slave praising the white slave owners -- because that is virtually what company scrip did to the workers: made them slaves subject to the whims of their masters.
