Rachel Maddow reviews the familiar pattern taking place in negotiations over the infrastructure bill as Democrats make concessions to weaken the bill in the hopes of drawing Republican votes that will never come, and the Beltway press assesses Democratic progress toward bipartisanship. But as that plays out, Democrats are still preparing to govern without Republicans. Aired on 05/21/2021.

(16,786 posts)Republicans are USELESS . How many times do Democrats need to be told NO?
Biden knows that by going BIG is popular with the voters.. He is getting the message out he knows and sees what America needs. He will tell them the Republicans are AGAINST progress their beloved Rich people will have to pay a few pennies more for.
Democrats have permission so to speak to go it alone. Let the Congressional Republicans scream bloody murder from the rafters they are being left out of the conversation. They want POWER, not to govern.

(205,463 posts)I'm incredibly impressed with the job that Biden's doing - the amount that needs to be done or fixed after four years of either nothing being done or the countless things that caused incredible harm and need to be repaired has to be overwhelming. And the Republican policy of obstruction predated Trump, McConnell's leadership including under Obama was to obstruct anything positive that moved us forward.
So the Republicans were already used to that - doing nothing or opposing any proactive policy. But the American people for the most part - as Rachel said - are desperate for moving forward. And we are at an unprecedented pace now - with or without Republican help or support. The American people have been excited and supportive about what's been accomplished so far - what's aggravating is that the Republicans are also claiming credit though they have been opposed to or voted against every single thing that can benefit the American people.
