(43,196 posts)There had to be ringleaders, there had to be money, it had to take a long time (decades in my opinion, but ... that's another story), and the American people must be told the truth!
Lay it all out there. We do this now or we won't be doing anything ever again.

(35,349 posts)tell it like it is. Not all this bullshit about my Republican colleges and friends across the isle. The people that backed Trump to turn over the election shouldn't be anywhere near DC.

I South America there is a saying I learned from a friend, I will try to translate it.
"If your mouth burns it is because you ate hot peppers." repubs have their mouths full of hot peppers.

(14,174 posts)How has that worked out for them?
Democrats are always two steps behind the GOP when it comes to messaging. I say they should be going on the offensive. Way more. They should be screaming from the shining city on the hill as loudly as this ad. Every . Freakin . Day .
They should keep pounding away at the narrative that Republicans are traitors who wanted to impose a Fascist dictatorship.
Why not even be.....gasp.....proactive?! Put out a statement saying that the Democrats cannot work with the Republicans until they accept helping to dig out the truth of that day. Instead of being the ones bending over backwards, and frontwards, to make sure their esteemed colleagues across the aisle get anything they want for the commission, create an independent one. Who cares if the GOP will scream on Fox News how the Democrats are going to run a one-sided inquiry, and that the participants are all D stooges.
Why not invite onto this commission, G W Bush, Colin Powell, Condoleza Rice, or some other past Republican stars. (I know I know I didn't think I'd ever write that) But that is how low the bar is for finding "good" Republicans, who at least SOME Republican still respect as older R statesmen.

(42,770 posts)thing that I pause about with this inside plot theory... Agree it was an inside job... But not sure who was in on it. That day some showed genuine fear and outrage. Yes, it quickly dissipated, but seemingly genuine at time. Maybe they knew but didn't think it was gonna be as bad as it was?

(42,770 posts)trump's side horrible. My only point was I'm not sure if all of them were in on January 6th. Some may be much more culpable than others.

(35,349 posts)say stuff like it was just like another tourist visit. If they can still support it now they are just as guilty as the others

(5,275 posts)That the Republicans want to sweep this under the rug, combined with all the right wing e shenanigans in States, tell us all we need to know. That party has gone largely crazy and corrupt. Its time for Democrats and non crazy Republicans to fight to thwart this attempted slide into Autocracy.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)Joe Walsh, conservative radio commentator, was just on CNN. He got fired because he spoke out against Trump. He made some good points in the interview. The audience of crazy Republicans hear only Fox News and conservative talk radio. How do you crack into that?

(57,073 posts)The only factor that is not obvious to me is why so many traitors are still walking around freely & why they are allowed to continue to disrupt our govt.
Ohioboy
(3,243 posts)That's because the traitors are the lawmakers in this case. We've reached a dangerous point where criminals and con men/ women are in power. They are not going to willingly do anything to exposed their criminal behavior. It's gotten so bad we actually had a president who encouraged a mob to attack our Capitol, and we can't get proper justice. I worry for America.

(35,688 posts)when the criminals are in office.
I hope that with trump's grand jury and potential imprisonment, it will lend power toward booting these types of out office. Still: six months for grand jury, a year for trial, and even if convicted, appeals. However, he might not get out on appeal awaiting trial. Most criminals do not.
We are looking at a year to a year and a half for the legal system to kick in to the point where we can leverage it against criminals.

(11,564 posts)It would have been quite shortsighted of them, but it was a possibility. In their ideal world, they will go back to being "the opposition," but even that is SOOO much better than what we have now. In the meantime, the hope is they will continue to help the Democrats put out the fire.

(991 posts)Didnt we all watch it happen in real time on tv and internet? Didnt we all see and hear former guys rally on a weekly basis for 4 years and build hate on Twitter every day spewing lies and promoting violence, up to Jan 6th when the tourists walked from former guys rally to the Capitol.
The alternative being what, that some rednecks just on their own decided to just up and storm the capitol? And on Jan 6th, since former guy was the president, who is by the very nature of the office, an insider........
If it were Obama that gave that speech on Jan 6th, he would have been arrested and be sitting in Guantanamo right now.

(10,833 posts)Nor should it. Want to know why the Republicans are against a January 6th Commission?
They. Are. Complicit.
They know it. We know it. They just don't want their voters to know it or even consider it.
Inside job, indeed.
