Professor Eddie Glaude used the massacre in Tulsa, Oklahomas Black Wall Street to bust the American myth. His statement is one we must understand.

(111,342 posts)It's deliberate, but not on the part of the uninformed person.
I lived on the east coast. I went to segregated schools in the south. I also joined social justice groups so I knew about Rosewood, Wilmington and Detroit. No one ever mentioned Greenwood, I didn't hear about that one until I moved west. None of them were in textbooks, none appeared in newspapers until after the civil rights movement on the 60s and when an anniversary of the massacre would come up.
Most people don't go beyond those sanitized, whitewashed high school history books, which are designed to produce patriotic and obedient workers. ost people don't read beyond them, they don't have time or their reading skills aren't all that great or they just trust their educators just a little too much.
W can do better, especially if we stop letting Texas pick the history books for the whole country. We need to do better.

(2,575 posts)hiding need to be held accountable for all the lies this, institutionalized racism, spread about people of color, and any immigrant group.
The U.S. institutions, all of them have told and perpetuated the lies that African Americans were naturally violent and lacked intelligence to be full Citizens.
Exposing the violent acts is only part of the truth seeking needed. The lies must be undone, the lies that included extreme institutionalized ideas and shitty methods and data.
