I keep hearing on the news and elsewhere (Bill Maher) that everything is "opening up" and that people are just getting back to "normal." But what I want to know is what the number of current cases, hospitalizations and deaths are - which used to be regularly in the news. I'm in New York and the vaccine is now available in pharmacies, pharmacies in groceries and Walmart and at a large busy state site at the nearby local mall - and many of them are taking walk-ins. So why is my county only at 61% - and other New York counties to the south and west are much lower, under 50%?!

This isn't over yet and we need to listen to the president and Dr. Fauci or we could be in real trouble - especially the states that have even worse vaccination rates and since this new variant affects younger people, what happens in the fall when school opens??

3. I think we need to think for ourselves, quite frankly

I'm hearing that break through infections are much, much higher than what is being reported.

And now CDC quit reporting them, only reporting break through hospitpalizations & deaths.

Joe is correct that people need to get vaccinated. But to tell vaccinated people they don't need to mask around others, Imho, is ridiculous with delta ramping up.

On one hand, we have experts portraying doom & gloom from delta &, on the other paw (g), they tell us we're reopening everything.

This is not sane, imo.

I wish for once our media would do its job!

4. Same here!

A couple of weeks ago, you could not enter any business, grocery, pharmacy, gas station or bank in these parts without a mask. Anyone without a mask (I only saw 2 and one embarrassed woman obviously forgot) were asked to mask up or leave. Now suddenly there's either no sign or the sign says that masks aren't required for those who are vaccinated. How do they know?! Most are suddenly going maskless and according to the statistics, that should be only 61%!

I don't personally. Viruses can mutate rapidly.

And vaccines are great but, at best, are only 94% effective.

I do not want to be part of the other 6%, living with long haul.

I'd guess that about half of the employees are still wearing masks, but almost none of the customers.

10. Fully vaxed since Feb but im keeping my mask on or at least on a holder around my neck..

.. no hand shaking or hugging... no attending crowded events (which I avoid anyway). Maybe a movie theater eventually and i dont mind restaurants as our County has a very low rate of infection. Air travel...? Still thinking on that one, mainly because of the nutters on board than the virus sneaking up on me. We will create our own unique 'new normal' based on the info we have and the confidence we have in the situation.

11. The term you're lookiing foir is "breakthrough illness."

The number of fully vaccinated people who show symptoms of illness with Covid is vanishingly small.

Infections happen all the time. The vaccination jump starts the immune system so that there isn't enough time for a large enough infection to occur to produce symptoms. Fully vaccinated people who test positive on routine screening are most likely presenting viral debris. The PCR doesn't distinguish between live virus and viral debris unless there is a recent modification I haven't come across in my reading.

Vaccinations work. Republicans and other antivax dimwits will be out there shedding live virus. If you are vaccinated, your immune system will look at it and dispose of it quickly. If you are not vaccinated, it will take about 2 weeks for your immune system to mount an adequate defense and people have died from it in that period of time.

But, vaccines, at best, are 94% effective, which obviously leaves 6%. I prefer to minimize the chance of being in that unfortunate group.

I'm not tempting fate, but I am very much encouraging others to get vaxed!

15. NM finallyt cleared walk in vax

so I walked in and got stabbed on Thursday. Given my reaction to it yesterday, I'd say it confirmed my having had the disease in 2020, something I was already fairly sure of.
