(10,495 posts)My ex-wife is black. After the divorce she changed back to her maiden name and updated her voter registration. She voted like that for two years just fine. After Texas passed their Voter ID law she received her voter registration card and noticed that they changed her last name back to mine which would have prevented her from voting because her ID would not match the registration. Fortunately, she checks and was able to get it corrected prior to that years election. How many did this happen to that did not look the card over?

(5,068 posts)I go by my middle name, catrose, my maiden name, and my husband's name, but Texas insists that the first name on your birth certificate be on all your official ID--and you can have only 3 names (Gracias, say all the Latinx with two last names). So it's always fun to see which one will be dropped, and they made such a fuss about your ID must look EXACTLY like your voter's card. In your ex-wife's case, it's even more fun. Last year I checked the voters database every month to make sure nothing changed.
