1. Gore got a bum deal

I know it was 20 years ago, but Gore actually had a much better case than Trump. Gore could have gone around the country as a sore loser but he did not. When I think about the 2000 election, I am amazed at any number of things:

1. Gore got 500,000 more votes than Bush. That had not happened since the election of 1888.

2. Bush's brother was the governor of Florida, so there was a definite conflict of interest there, as well as

3. Katherine Harris, the Secretary of State responsible for overseeing the election, was the president or leader of the Florida Republicans for Bush. THAT was a bigger conflict of interest than Jeb.

We'll probably never know what really happened in Florida. 537 votes - MUCH closer than any margin in any state that Trump is flapping his lips about. That's why today, we have to win by thousands of votes, to keep them from stealing it.

Worst of all, the 2000 election in Florida let Republicans know what they could get away with. There is a direct line from there to the Trump disaster of 2020.

and listening to him talk about that "information super highway." If Newt Gingrich is the Godfather of bitter partisan divide, Karl Rove grew up politically at the knees of Roger Stone. Rove put that "create your own reality" on steroids. Al Gore is a gracious man who has been as reviled in the minds of the right wing every bit as much as Hillary and Bill. But that election was the domino in between Richard Nixon and Donald Trump. Still wonder what he thinks of what his "information superhighway" has wrought. They called this guy a joke and gave us an inept degenerate buffoon.

a newspaper consortium recounted the ballots.
their results were ambiguous. iirc, al came out worst recounting just the counties he had asked for.

but it would have been proper to to give him the votes from the palm beach 'butterfly ballot', which would have clearly changed the outcome.
the voter intent seemed clear to me, but so were the marks on that ballot.

Talk about a fixed election! Al got screwed all the way around. And that bitch Kathrine Harris done him in. And if my memory serves me, she was kicked to the curb by the Republicans not to far after. Gore would have been a good President.

... to sadly where we are today. The GQP saw how easy the Democrats are willing to concede rather than fight and they have used that to bring us to the edge of fascism. One-party rule dictatorship is their goal.

I have faith that Biden is trying his damnedest to save our Democracy.... but 20 years of the GQP working to destroy the two-party system is not going to be reversed in four years of dedication and hard work.

And now it looks like the country is going to be further divided by vaccinated and unvaccinated citizens.

...regarding "irreparable harm" to Bush was such BS. How about the irreparable harm done to Al Gore, and to the country?
