(206,016 posts)It's long past time what Carter's administration was given credit for so much - he did keep the peace and spread it to the Middle East, one of his main goals. And the Carter Center has championed human rights throughout the world - especially ensuring fair elections and combating preventable disease. When he was asked on one of the late night shows, think it was Colbert, what he wanted his legacy to be - he said "Guinea Worm." Through the efforts of the Carter Center, this disease is very close to being entirely eradicated throughout the world. He has never stopped working to make this world a better place...

(206,016 posts)He's written numerous books in his post-presidency, I recommend his autobiography, "A Full Life: Reflections at 90," most highly, from his childhood in rural Georgia, his years at Annapolis, his brilliant career in the Navy, his return to Georgia to run the family farm when his father died in 1953, to his first run for local office, his proactive years as Governor to his run for president - encouraged by VP Humphrey and aided by his family, especially chief campaigner, Rosalynn - not to mention his years as POTUS, he really has led a fascinating life, so far...
