(36,161 posts)His reasonableness and eloquence blew up Texas' anti-democratic voting structure based on The Big Lie and Fear.
He shows greater respect than Texas Republicans deserve.
It's clear to people paying attention that this bill intends to punish Texas voters already punished by the Texas' austerity, trickle-down beatdown of their 2-job lives by restricting their voting time, ways and means.
When Republican Schwertznik said, "I appreciate your clarification about Texas' ease of voting,"
Beto nailed him with "It's still 50th in ease of voting, just so we're on the same page."

(4,986 posts)I think about the excitement of the kid working at the gas station in a red county in 2018. He was delighted when I handed him a sticker from the Beto rally I attended earlier that day. Thats because Beto speaks truth. Its hard to vote in Texas, and thats not fair. When you lay it out to folks in a meaningful way they get it. Its 2021, and we have more methods than ever to extend the franchise in a secure and sensible way. What the legislature is doing right now is forcing through an extremist agenda, and thats not Texas at all.

(206,332 posts)He's been a favorite of mine all all along, all the way here in New York. He been working so hard, getting out the vote, and he's so well spoken with the most proactive ideas. I know he's been compared to my former senator - Robert F. Kennedy - and I can definitely see the resemblance, both physically and his ideas. I was tickled when I learned his real name is Robert Francis! I'm not sure what his next move will be - I know a lot of people hope he'll run for governor - and others think he could take down Ted Cruz this time. But whatever he does, I have no doubt he's got a bright future.

(206,332 posts)Which isn't easy, since he's out and about and doing so much!
And no problem - it's just great to hear from you. Hoping that things get better and you know that I'm always around, power outages permitting.

(206,332 posts)When we first moved to DU.3, I immediately signed up as a host for LBN - since that was my first moderator gig back in 2007 - and V&M - since I really like the videos. And I know that not everyone here has cable, or even TV, so I try to post the important news they might otherwise miss.

(4,986 posts)I had the legislature feed going for most of the day. Wish I could have been at the Capitol. Life has been unusual for all manner of reasons since the cold week disaster in Texas. Burns me to no end that our zealot governor and the cowed republican lege members are out to take advantage of their positions.
Beto has a real chance, and yes, he has to overcome the question that happened shortly after El Paso, but he still has it in Texas, if he wants it.
Have missed ya, Rhiannon - Ill be back in here on DU on the regular, soon. Im, ehh, still setting up my systems after a difficult set of months.

(206,332 posts)I'm sorry to hear that you're still having a rough time. What happened in Texas was inexcusable and it's imperative that major changes are made - no wonder they don't want people to vote, those responsible need to be replaced ASAP. And Beto is on the side of the people.
The weather up here has been far from ideal, rain, thunder and wind storms on a regular basis - with resulting intermittent power outages and branches in the roads, just in time for tourist season. But compared to the rest of the country, I realize we have little to complain about.
Hang in there, my friend - it's great to see you, as always!

(4,986 posts)Texans cant afford to have the governor get the best forecast and his followers get another.
Hey, Im hangin in there, and survivin. Weve got more solutions to modern problems than we know what to do with, and so, I remain hopeful.
