(8,332 posts)Being a Capitol Police officer must totally suck after 1/6. First the President sent a violent mob to attack you with bats, bars, clubs, chemical sprays, flag poles, spears, bug spray, construction debris, parts of the inaugural platform, hockey and lacrosse sticks, tasers, pipe bombs and god knows what else. Other departments show up but the National Guard, who you always believed was your support agency gets there after the fighting is over.
Then the public says you did a shitty job and it was an inside job, then a member of your department commits suicide, all the while you are working 12-16 hours a day 6/7 days a week.
Along the way, you are told by Democrats and Republicans that there should be an investigation, yet it has not started yet, impeachment adds even more extra hours to your already extended schedule.
During impeachment videos and stills are released that bring the whole attack back to life again, the Presidential Inauguration adds additional additional hours to your schedule, you are exhausted, you miss your family and your family misses you, and you are completely burnt out.
Then, parts of the security fence comes down and a maniac who wants to commit suicide by cop crashes through your barricade killing one of your co workers and injuring another.
Still there is talk of investigation but nothing happening, well almost nothing, Republican Members start changing the narrative, saying things like peaceful cross and regular tourist day and police executed a non violent white woman and other absolute fucking nonsense. Members who barricades the House Floor were just talking ragtime shit.
Now, because of the money being spent on security and overtime, the USCP budget is blown and they may be out of money in August and they will be working for free while waiting for an appropriations bill to pass, but the Republicans in the senate, the same people who were clawing this a peaceful and non violent crowd.
Officer Fanone is so right, it is hard to go back to work every day when treated like shit, a constant reminder of the attack of 1/6, but the oath you took brings you back to work day in and day out.
We owe a great thanks to the cops of the US Capitol
police.

(8,332 posts)And get him killed for taking a tragic protective action in 1/6. Although that shooting was not found criminal, that officer still has to live with the reality that he took a human life in his duty to protect the members of Congress.
