Way back in the seventies! We were carefree, and free to go on day outing joy rides on the yachts of business magnates we knew.

And what a great setback it was for our public image around the world when Trump and his supporters started chanting, together with the "Chi-Coms" (Old US State Department terminology for Chinese Communists) that the press was the enemy of the people. The authoritarian, autocratic message of that proclamation rang loud and clear, and frankly, I don't know how far the US is going to have to go now to really atone for the negative messaging of the Trump years and really get back to the point where we can once again be trusted as pillars of democracy.

The old Hong Kong I knew loved joy, and liberty, too much to take this authoritarian crackdown lightly, or without some protest, or a fight. More power to them in their fight for democracy and free speech!
