Lilly Geisler goes to a lot of trouble to recycle. So she left CNN a voicemail asking: How much of my recycling actually gets recycled? John Sutter travels to Muncie, Indiana, to find out.

(19,204 posts)That little stamp with the three arrows was made to appear as a recycling symbol, and that was devised by the plastics industry.
The resin code, the little number within those arrows, identifies which petroleum resin was used in it's manufacture.
Anything past the number 2 is usually not considered recyclable. I believe Waste Management recycles 3 as well. Other that that, there may as well be a 0 inside the arrows.
It's all bullshit. Another ruse by the plastics industry to confuse you into thinking they care about the planet. Bastards!

I need sturdy glasses, so got all plastic frames, the company claims each pair uses 6 soda bottles.

(43,190 posts)They couldn't reduce it by 10% within 5 years if they tried. You can't buy food without plastic. Even most cardboard boxes with wax paper is gone now. Some vegetables are sold loose, but now the wire ties are plastic. There is nobody seeking solutions, there is no money to seek solutions. They should grind it an extrude structural plastic lumber. That idea went nowhere too.
