You have to admit that anti-maskers have been stirred into such extremism that they love their conspiracy theories and their freedom to spread COVID more than most of us love our friends and families or facts or science, since you really do not see most people motivated enough to go to local government meetings to speak about climate change, that Trump lost, that vaccines work or that climate change is real, or that the sky is blue.
So, of course, Republicans will cater to the crazy. We like to blame Democrats, but where are the People pushing back against the gaslighting? People have surrendered the public podiums to crazy Fox News watchers who are normalizing extremism.
Until people get up, go to speak out against the lies, and not yield the stage to the crazy, you will have politicians who will happily cater these extremists until one day, the racist, right wing rhetoric has become the new normal..

(17,390 posts)You have to give credit to the right wing, because they understand that the represent a small, extremist minority. They are not going to be able organize a large march. So, they rely on displays of wealth such as yacht parades or relying on the same ten or twenty people to spew vaccine misinformation at school board and city council meetings, which are televised and they can effectively filibuster an item.
You can have an item that normally takes only three minutes, but if it relates to health, you can have 20 speakers speaking for 3 to 5 minutes each turn that item into an hour long informercial on anti-vax conspiracies. Of course, since public meetings are recorded, then you can share that meeting on youtube and social media.
The question is why can't progressives step up their game and be more efficient? Yes, mass marches and protests are impressive, but they are expensive and a pain to organize and pull off.
