Businesses, government offices, and schools in the state of Florida could now be facing $5,000 fines if they ask for proof of vaccination status. This is the latest move by the Republican-controlled state to pretend that your personal choices don't impact the health of everyone else, and the new rule is likely to be struck down by courts in record time. The absurdity and outright insanity taking place from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is simply mind-blowing at this point, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

(22,656 posts)Just when you think they've hit bottom they find a new low.
It's cruel and immoral, with all the hardships people are facing with the pandemic, to stack layer upon layer of this crap down on top of the already heavy burdens people have to bear.
Something's got to give somewhere. People are already snapping under the pressure. It will only get worse, I'm afraid.
Now is the time to gather all the humanity we have and show love and mercy to each other.
Too bad the Republicans don't seem to understand that concept.
Take care, Rhi. I ❤ you!

(205,320 posts)And what's insane about this is that - like promoting the vaccine - checking to make sure that employees and customers are vaccinated is one essential thing companies and businesses can do to keep Covid from spreading further. It's not only a good practice to keep businesses functioning, but it protects people! Especially in a state where the hospitals are already overwhelmed. They should have started much earlier, advocating getting the vaccine and wearing masks and they could have avoided some of this out-of-control horror show!
BTW, I got tickets to see Al Franken when he appears in my part of the country in November. And proof of vaccination is required to attend. I'm guessing he's not going to Florida.

I hope DeSantis gets his pants sued off. What a jerk.

(205,320 posts)You'd think that the breaking point would have come when he prohibited mask wearing in schools - which would have kept children, too young to receive the vaccine, as safe as possible. And all of the teachers and staff should be required to be vaccinated - as well as workers and customers in all businesses. The hospitals are currently overwhelmed, people of all ages are getting sick and dying. It's beyond me to imagine what his goal is in killing off residents of his state, but there should be consequences for promoting sickness and death.
