Velshi: Our Seedy Love Affair With Fossil Fuels Will De The Death Of This Planet - MSNBC

Hurricane Ida will go down in history as one of the most impactful hurricanes to ever hit America. And it is a prime example of a natural event made more dangerous by the climate crisis. These weather events are not new -- we’ve had flooding and hurricanes since the world began. But it’s the increasing strength and the frequency of these events that are concerning. Human-made climate change is exacerbating extreme weather.

It’s time to admit the cold, hard truth: that our seedy love affair with fossil fuels and the oil industry will be the death of all of us. Or the death of our planet, which is the same thing. The science is clear that the burning of oil, gas and coal is quite literally setting the earth on fire. We all use oil. We need it to drive cars, travel on airplanes, produce heat and so much more. That’s what makes this a difficult discussion to have. But there is not a world in which we mitigate the effects of the climate crisis without fundamentally changing our relationship to fossil fuels. I’ve been thinking.. we’ve heard this for many year’s now but what have we done? I rely on my a/c .. I drive a car.. I try not to waste water.. do we want to sacrifice these pleasures or is there an alternative? I do believe.. all our needs will be inventions waiting to happen n hopefully a boost with our infrastructure bill.. we have all these comforts because of innovations.. with our knowledge of climate changes in the future..I think we will n must live differently..
Not drastic, at first but changes gotten happen.. and they will.

We studied the coming changes, including massive, luxurious mass transit plans, MPG caps on passenger vehicles...
The entire plans wiped out on the Oily lobby's behest within weeks of washed up actor-puppet Ray Gun's election.
The Republican party has been the "party of stupid" for 50 years, it's a mass Duning-Krueger effect those voters are still falling for the same fearmongering, just amplified beyond description now.

predictably bothersome to me for half a century now.
Driving one or two fat duffs to the all you can eat buffet in veritable behemothmobiles is so damn dated. Yet here I am taking some extended decompression time in an area devoid of mass transit, but air relatively clean from the left coast fires. Holy crap the overblown pickemuptrucks running around here that likely are 90 percent making excursions that could be so far more ecologically accomplished, to top that cake so many of the drivers display the patience and immature behavior behind the wheel below that my of my dog.
I can take long trips in my 6 cylinder truck, hauling my travel trailer to work gigs on less than half the fuel most of these drivers consume hauling nothing.
Once there I take public transit if available whenever possible.
It's so frustrating that so many places, alternatives aren't available, and so many just don't care.
In the near future, however, I'll be making a far more ecologically sound purchase if things go well:
