(843 posts)veering further to the right into the hell scape that that represents - sure, they're promoting and giving the far right every gonzo thing they think is right and pure in their minds of their ideal of a ultra conservative utopia - but how many folk that lean to the right that were willing to follow along to a point are thinking "whoa, this nutso stuff isn't what I signed up for. People are dying for this nonsense." The politicos are appealing to a smaller and smaller group as they continue down the rat hole.
You gotta think that there are more than a few that are realizing, much as they might despise anything perceived as liberal, that maybe their side is taking this way too far. Not saying they're going to all of a sudden become left leaning and we're going to gain votes, but more along the lines of "I can't vote for this insanity" or whatever. And vote for anyone other than the major lunatic presented for election. Much as I might like to assume an irrationality amongst the group, certainly there has to be a certain number that have some bit of sense and realize where the current nihilism is leading. Like with any group, the group think isn't monolithic. Then again, maybe just wishful thinking on my part.

Yep, Cruz beat Beto by only 2.6 % in 2018, and Texas has gotten even more diverse since then. I think Beto would have an excellent chance of beating Abbott in spite of the new voting restrictions.
