The I-Won't-Kill-You Card - Mark Fiore

Let’s call “vaccine passports” what they really are: documentation that you will not kill other people because you have selfishly chosen to not get a COVID vaccine. Sure, if you want to be like a right-wing radio host and roll the dice by not getting the shot, that’s one thing. (It hasn’t been working out too well for those guys.)

The choice of getting vaccinated or not doesn’t stay with the individual, of course. Your decision to take your chances and not get vaccinated has very real health affects on other people. It’s not just a personal decision, it’s a decision that actively harms other people. (See: rampaging delta variant and overflowing hospitals.)

Vaccine incentives were fun and made for good news stories but they clearly aren’t enough. It is high time airlines instituted a vaccine requirement to fly. If we have to show our drivers licenses to get on a plane, why not proof of vaccination? Bars and restaurants are already starting to require proof of vaccination — we just need more companies, colleges and other institutions to step up and do the same. The harder it is for so many people to remain unvaccinated, the better.

I remember Mark Fiore from the Bush* years, I was pleased to see that he's still making his political cartoons.

Michelle Obama is friendly with him at any rate and she doesn't suffer fools gladly. But people are beginning to remember again now since he was responsible for Afghanistan. I wish I could find my favorite Mark Fiore cartoon - it involved the Reagan/Bush I administration and Saddam Hussein.

I honestly didn't think they could come up with someone worse. Silly me.

That she tolerates him is his only redeeming factor, imo.

I remember when all our living presidents were there for Bush Senior's funeral and W took the time to stop and give Michelle Obama cough drops or whatever it is that they exchange on these occasions. And we know that Michelle Obama has a good sense of humor.

On that trip to the USSR with my grandmother, we brought personal greetings to the mayor of our "sister town" from the Reagan/Bush administration. The reason was that one of the other members of our group (they were all senior citizens except for one lady and me) his wife happened to be first cousins with George HW Bush. So I asked him once what Bush Senior was like and he said he was a nice guy, but he didn't agree with his politics. I realize now that I was traveling with a group of liberal Democrats.

You are less likely to get COVID while vaccinated, but breakthroughs are fairly common. The virus can still reside in the back of your throat and infect others even if you remain asymptomatic through your infection. That’s the reason masks are still needed even if you’ve been vaccinated. It’s mainly to protect the dipshits who can get vaccinated, but don’t. Also those few who genuinely can’t get get vaccinated, not to be confused with dipshits who lie and say they can’t get vaccinated because they have an irrational fear of vaccines.

Than of dying alone in a hospital, unable to breathe. Makes no sense to me.
