Just not as widely taught about in western history classes. I never heard about the Greek settlements in Afghanistan until well after I graduated from college. As you can see from this Bactrian (Greek-Afghan) tetradrachm, the writing, portraying Eukratides, the King (EYKPATIΔOY BAΣIΛEΩΣ ) is pure ancient Greek, and the engraving style is somewhat reminiscent of the so-called "new style" Athenian tetradrachms of around the same era.
