He only thinks about anything if it affects him personally - which explains his total lack of action on the global pandemic and 9/11 apparently didn't affect his life, either.

And I have been monitoring a good part of the Northeast, last week I went to see my dentist in Albany - my Dad grew up there and I was born there. I actually spent 9/11 in the dentist's chair, she had the TV tuned to CNN and I kept seeing that second plane hitting over and over. I walked out of there scared witless and that's what motivated me to start paying more attention to what's going on in this country and the world. And I ended up here on DU in early 2003. I also found out that my dentist (and her assistant) is "one of us," so I often show her news from DU. 
Then I took my dog for his checkup at the vet in Saratoga (where I grew up) and they appear to have survived racing season. Last year everything was closed. But then last night I went north to Lake George for a meeting, relieved that the crowds of tourists usually clear out right after Labor Day. But the storm that my brother warned me about hit just as I drove into town. There was blinding rain and the hill to the municipal center where I was headed was completely blocked, there was a fallen tree right across the road! I managed to access a side street to bypass the tree, but there were branches down all over. Needless to say, not too many made the meeting. So up North is not doing so well - and it's not even winter!
