(6,856 posts)But it must be take in context. Maybe 10% of those arrested so far are deplorables, but is that because its an accurate picture of the rioters or just the ones who got caught?
For sure theres a bunch of economically-comfortable rebels without a cluetheyre always the first to line up at the feeding trough, especially if theres news coverage. Real news, amateur social media, or cellphone videos, they just want their faces seen.

(69,807 posts)there must be people who never got inside who have been charged, right?
at any rate, that sounds like a pretty good sample.

(1,009 posts)It certainly makes sense, that the fear of replacement would be stronger in blue counties.
Faux News is in NYC after all.

(10,110 posts)The right media will take this bone and run with it.
They've been doing it for a while.
When they look at the sources for it, I think it leads to right wing leadership and media.
It gets their supporters worked up and out to vote.
And like he said, it is dangerous.

(12,134 posts)The focus on individuals like the QAnon Shaman or the podium-carrying clown masks the true nature of the threat. First time I've seen this guy -- thanks for posting.

(69,807 posts)i think i have posted several times that this shit all goes back to 'if it bleeds, it leads'.
that news focus was never meant to make money. it was made to manipulate people.
to block out the rest of the actual news, such as it was, that followed.
maybe to get you to not watch the news at all. network execs still hate the news division. they fewer eyeballs it gets, the more leverage they have over it.
it's all about getting that lizard brain to kick in.
maybe a consoler in chief will do more good than we think.

(17,781 posts)misconstrued in bigoted minds as a loss or "rights." And it's older than our Republic. In fact, it's universal. It's the driver behind more than a century of violence in Northern Ireland, where religion is the dividing factor. In the US, the driver has always been race and region of origin. It's always been African Americans, but at times it's been the Irish, Southern Europeans, Eastern Europeans, Hispanics, etc.
On Edit. For a historical analog...see the Know Nothing Party in the 1840's to 1850's. No matter what's written on the Statue of Liberty or what our national ethos may be, racism and bigotry has always been a part of American society. As Solomon wrote...there's nothing new under the sun.

3. My neighbor could nut up at anytime and start shooting.
One question he should have asked. "Do you think the only good democrat is a dead democrat?"
Thanks for sharing Yoshida.

Very good explanation, I am glad he talked about the military which is one issue that has had me worried because I have seen what has happened in countries where totalitarianism has taken over, many times under the disguise of "Socialism/Communism" but nonetheless totalitarianism with high support from the military. Totalitarian regimes cannot survive without the help of the military.
Another issue is the police, I am convinced that white supremacists have placed their members in many police departments, and that is why we see all these injustices against minorities, specially against blacks.
I believe the best way to turn this around is by first, fixing the economy for everyone to benefit to be able to have dreams, second is to cut all loopholes that benefit corporations and the very rich so that they contribute to the economy to make the playing field more balanced, and third is to educate people in all areas, enriching people's lives through the arts, music, science. All these has to be done in parallel.
An educated people will not fall for lies, but an uneducated people will, reason why republicans have always tried to destroy education and the arts in this country.

(6,543 posts)Mr. Pape calmly lays out the scientific basis for who is part of January 6 insurrection.
White, male, over 35, more business owners or CEOs than blue collar or unemployed, most not affiliated with "militias" but plenty of former military. Many from blue urban areas, not all rural.
Fear of "great replacement" which he defines as fear that non-white population is gaining more rights than whites have.
To someone (white male) who has enjoyed ultimate power and privilege, any improvement in someone else's life feels like a loss to them. Feels like. Not reality.
Very interesting study. Thank you for posting this.
