(3,389 posts)Someone Ive never heard of, but Im told that I should be distraught over her death, while they dont mention any of the other people who were kidnapped or killed.
One would think that killers would have learned by now, just dont go after the blond women, theyre the only ones the media cares about. Attack the minority women, and no one will mention it.

(15,325 posts)Maybe out of respect for this tragedy, Start another thread or campaign for the unnamed, missing, & address it to the Reps that can make it a campaign for change.
Using this young woman's death by attacking her race or hair color is really a sad display that isn't needed.
Start with directly addressing the media.
Gabby Petito shouldn't be the poster child for the fault of media that runs the headlines.
I'm sure Ms Petito doesn't deserve the racial badgering I've seen here in every thread posted out of sincere sadness for her demise.
Grow up. Start a campaign on a national scale. Do something that moves the national & international message & demand to address the human tragedy of those unnamed & forgotten without using this young woman's face & name & tragic end to her life, to air personal grievances.
What have you personally done or are willing to do other than rage about the issue on social media using Gabby Petito as a beat board.
She's dead. Can she rest in peace for awhile ?

(40,190 posts)Yes, it is true that women of color, poor women, and women not attractive by current standards are overlooked and ignored by the media.
It is also true that this a sad and tragic story. You are right, Gabby Petito did not chose her race or hair color. She has lost her life at 22 years old and in the next few days we will find out how she died.
May she Rest In Peace.

It's not as if Gabby Petito had (or could have) chosen for her missing persons case to become a media sensation - the news media has chosen to make it so.
No one here who posted about this case is suggesting in any way that less-publicized cases involving the poor and POC are any less important or that there is no media bias, but the truth of the matter is that her case is all over the news and many of us here have been following it intently.
Coming into threads such as these and bemoaning the fact that Gabby was just another pretty young missing white girl getting all the attention is akin to a protestor running up on the stage where a presidential candidate is giving a speech and snatching the mic away to go off on a tangent or rant about an entirely different topic. Doing this is not an effective way of bringing attention to a cause you are passionate about.
