(36,030 posts)This is where we're at. Old models do not serve the future because the old stabilities of Earth that created those LINEAR measures no longer exist. And so any models from them are not helpful.
One reason we now know that scientists must shift their work and communicate the future and management of our societal collapses are these tipping points.
A tipping point means that humans can no longer "manage" Earth dynamics, which include increases in energy feedback loops. Completely stopping what humans have been doing will no longer work after a tipping point is reached. For thousands of years after, human management will permanently go forward as only whatever works toward its own survival.
Humans have made little to no coordinated containment effort to stop any these tipping points. And so we're here.
Here are effects we think we can measure, for now, but once we're past tipping points and in survival mode, a climate service like NOAA will be our only useful source of information. Capitalism and politics will only have limited stabilizing utility for humans. When citizens see that government has denied and delayed so that there's no turning back, citizens will turn their backs on government as a leading entity, and see it only as a help entity.
