My most profuse gratitude to Rochelle P. Walensky, M.D., M.P.H. for intervening on our behalf.
I'm an Xray tech, 62, with some risk factors. I've taken an extended break to heal from long haul post COVID symptoms, as well as to depressurize-- hospital work is stressful enough without battling RW idiots to put their damn masks back on.
I was ready to just go check the "immunocompromised" form to get the booster before returning to work.
Xray techs have a high risk of exposure as well as respiratory and the RN's. We tend to be rushed through our job, often to the detriment of conscientious donning/doffing of PPE since Xray often must enter/exit COVID rooms numerous occasions per day. I have no quorum about reporting a impatient staffer or MD that demands risky behavior. The second scenario with exposure risk are outpatients. Aside from aforementioned struggle to keep outpatients compliant with mask requirements, here's what I've observed, had to deal with the fallout from: the patient who wears their mask, then pulls it down to cough, often without any cover of that cough at all--- just blow their flora all over the room. I've lost count of how many times an exam room has to be shut down, allowed to air then have a full decontamination due to this.
I'm returning to work mid-October, I'll be due for my booster 10/2. I sure as hell want all the immunity boost I can get.

This isn't 2019. Keep your secretions to yourself!

My concerns are more about what and when.

If you didn't have Pfizer to begin with, should you take a Pfizer booster?

And when should you do this? I assume it would not be within a month of getting your second of the initial shots (or your only if it was J&J) - but - when I think of booster shots in general I think of a year later. From the first? ot from the second?

An article in the Atlantic addresed this, but no conclusions - just a dizzying array of different ideas over a huge time range.
