Tulsa Just One Of Many Places Race Massacres Targeted Black Americans Says Jelani Cobb - The ReidOut

More than 100 years after one of the worst episodes of terroristic violence in American history, the few remaining survivors of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre got a chance to make a case for justice and reparations today. A Tulsa district court judge heard arguments in a lawsuit on behalf of the three living survivors of the massacre. Tiffany Cross, host of MSNBC's The Cross Connection and Jelani Cobb, co-editor of the new book The Matter of Black Lives: Writing from the New Yorker, join Joy Reid. Aired on 09/28/2021.

massacre...both before and after. Thousands killed and millions of dollars of generational wealth was wiped out without any recompense ever. There was never any thought of paying relatives or descendents back.

It's horrifying, especially since there was such an effort to erase this tragedy from history for years.

She wrote quite a bit about the horrors that transpired back then - and Tulsa was one of the worst. She also wrote about the unbelievable coverup, it's long past time this tragedy was addressed. And it's amazing that there are still witnesses, my grandmother was just a young girl at the time and my parents weren't even born until years later. I truly hope that there is some kind of justice and reparations even at this late date. And a big part of the tragedy is that it wasn't addressed until now.
