Doing 'The Lambeth Walk' Nazi Style- The Gestapo Hep-Cats: British WW2 Parody

- 1941. Hitler & Co. hated it! During the war, Resistance groups played the British short in Danish theaters and elsewhere. The title comes from the popular song and dance named after the Lambeth neighborhood in London.

- This film short is called "Lambeth Walk - Nazi Style" and was made by Charles A. Ridley in 1941.

Ridley re-edited existing footage of Hitler & Nazi soldiers (taken from Leni Reifenstahl's famous 1934 propaganda film, 'Triumph of the Will') to make it appear they were marching & dancing to "The Lambeth Walk".

> He used the music because members of the Nazi party had called the tune "Jewish mischief and animalistic hopping".

The re-edit was distributed uncredited to newsreel companies in the US and UK.

Made 60+ years before YouTube, it is regarded as one of the first political remix videos.

Hitler and his A/V crew certainly capitalized on the emerging medium to promote Nazi-ism in the other only way it projected power....everyone marching in lockstep. A great counter message, using the same film to pop the Nazi messaging balloon.

There's a brief moment on a Hitler close up. I thought, lose the moustache and he looks like Gym Jordan's brother....
