(9,998 posts)In any case, DeSatan may very well be our next president. So evidently a large % of the population agree with his policies. He doesn't seem too concerned about it hurting his chances for re-election next year.
In a normal, functioning, and intelligent society, guys like him and Abbott would be marginalized and run out of office. Instead, they poll, at worst, around 50%, and will probably be re-elected. In a normal society, a position like Beto's, against gun violence, would be embraced. Instead, it's probably going to cost him any chance he had at winning the election. I have the utmost faith in the inability of Texans to vote for someone with half a functioning brain. Ditto Florida.

(206,072 posts)He has the enthusiasm, the energy and he sure makes sense. It would be a tragedy if voters didn't embrace him. He's said the tragedy of last winter's power loss when Texans were abandoned by those they elected to protect them inspired him to run. But I also just heard his statement on guns - a policy that would certainly save lives. However, you're likely right, another instance of people voting against their own self interests.

(9,998 posts)There are many other places where he would win quite easily. Obviously there are parts of even TX, where he could do well.
But as a whole? Like you said, how ridiculous are we to think that people would vote for what will be in the own best interests?
I expect they'll go hard against his opinions on firearms. Probably to the point where they'll say he's going to come to your home, point a gun in your face, and demand you hand over all your weapons. Perhaps that's enough to get around 45% of Texans in Abbott's corner 100%. Then they just have to wrangle up another 6% of Morons who have IQ's under 50.
