New Rule: Bill Maher the Messaging Czar
Bill dons his "Coach" hat and attempts to guide the Democrats away from a devastating loss in the upcoming midterm elections.
Here's a "bootleg" version of the show which includes the entire interview with Fareed Zakaria (4:14), entire panel discussion with Chris Christie and Eric Adams (14:36), and includes the opening part of New Rules (42:19). It won't last long, as usual:

(205,927 posts)It was a good show tonight, even the panel thanks to Eric Adams. But this is the last show of Bill's "season," both he and John Oliver go on hiatus every year at this time. Guess it gives Bill more time for his comedy tour...
Speaking of which, I really wish I could remember more Al Franken jokes. I can only think of two and I'm not telling the Willie Nelson one to anybody...

(205,927 posts)My friend and I saw Al Franken's current comedy show 2 weeks ago tonight - and he's still got it, he was very funny - plus now he's got stories and jokes about his colleagues (Ted Cruz) and time in the Senate - and the sold out audience gave him a standing ovation!

(2,868 posts)The criticism that the Dems are failing to properly "message" in regards to the BBB is really getting tiresome. This is a trap by the MSM.
Imagine the Dems had started "selling" the BBB months ago. When Biden ends up signing the bill, the MSM will be asking, what happened to X and Y that you said would be in the bill? The MSM would portray it as making promises and not keeping them.
You can't start messaging or selling what's in a bill, until AFTER it passes both houses. The exception being the Speaker, who laid out what was in the bill that the House just passed, as she was only referencing the House version.

Somebody needs to explain to Maher the historic assumption was the Dems would lose the gubernatorial elections in NJ & VA by fairly large margins, but instead the Dems OVERPERFORMED, winning in NJ and only losing VA by two points.
Him saying Carville was a great election strategist is quite true, the key word being WAS. He's now out-of-touch and hopelessly behind-the-curve.

Franken is very funny, he was also one hell of a Senator as well.

(31,184 posts)The panel discussion (BBB) and New Rules (Carville "Woke" ) are differentone is a very specific (selling the infrastructure bill) and the other very general (rebranding the Democratic party).
I agree with Maher 100%: the lack of effective messaging is killing us.
