Not a threat. A promise.

(5,125 posts)AHHHHH, but he didn't "mail it" since it isn't on "paper" he thinks he can get away with it. TIME to upgrade the code.
18 U.S. Code § 871 - Threats against President and successors to the Presidency
U.S. Code
Notes
(a) Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits for conveyance in the mail or for a delivery from any post office or by any letter carrier any letter, paper, writing, print, missive, or document containing any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States, the President-elect, the Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President of the United States, or the Vice President-elect, or knowingly and willfully otherwise makes any such threat against the President, President-elect, Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President, or Vice President-elect, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.
If convicted of this offense, there may be additional legal consequences besides going to prison:
A fine up to $250,000.00. 18 U.S.C. §3571(b)(3).
A special assessment of $100.00. 18 U.S.C. §3013(a)(2)(A).
Supervised release after imprisonment up to 3 years. 18 U.S.C. §3583(b)(2).
If a resident alien, this crime is considered a deportable offense. 8 U.S.C. §1227(a)(2)(D)(ii).
Continued monitoring by the United States Secret Service, especially online activities.
A person can be convicted of this crime from speech alone. Federal prosecutors are not required to prove that the individual making the threat made any extra efforts to carry out the threat. It is not even necessary to directly communicate the threat to the president. As long as the person making the statement comprehends the effect of the words said and the statement further manifests a determination to carry out the threat, then a felony conviction can stand.

(47,578 posts)With Gosar, there isn't a whole lot of actual "thinking" going on and clearly he believes laws are for other people, not him. That said, I think there is something seriously wrong with the man. A lot of republicans have been outrageous for political advantage, but with Gosar, I think there is something pathological going on.

(5,125 posts)Among other things....
Department of Peace could set up the home town Peace Corps and get the Build Back Better cooking with gas.
WHAT DOES PEACE LOOK LIKE?
US with an infrastructure that works and prospering with all the people employed doing public works projects that can begin reinvesting in the economy by paying their rent, buying food, getting caught up on bills and replacing old household goods.
Give the poor money and they give it back. The have to in order to live.
WHAT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE PEACE?
Hate groups having their way in the street and mowing people down with guns, cars and any other available weapon at their disposal.

(47,578 posts)I believe that is where we are headed, a world where everyone has food, shelter, education, and healthcare as a basic right. Everything else would be the icing on the cake.
