Lois Lerner was a Bush appointee to the IRS. Her department was understaffed and overworked, and chose to speed up the review process by searching for key words in PACs. She did nothing wrong, but knew the scumbags in the GOP would find a way to pin something on her, regardless. She pleaded the 5th.

This gave FOX NOISE an excuse to start a two year WANK-A-THON over how "Obama's IRS was 'targeting' conservative groups;" and gave that scumbag Darrell Issa the excuse to DRAG HER IN FRONT OF HIS COMMITTEE EVERY WEEK to provide SOUND BYTES.

Like so:

Issa: "Did you cause the Great Depression of 1936?"
Lerner: "I plead the 5th"

Issa: "Were you involved in the 9-11 attack?
Lerner: "I plead the 5th"

Issa: "Do you routinely drown puppies in your kitchen sink?"
Lerner: "I plead the 5th"

...and so on.

It also provided the opportunity for every right wing TROLL, from Steve Crowder to James O'Keiff, to chase her through her neighborhood, harassing her with questions, to create even more soundbytes.

Alright, NOW let's see if a House committee can do the same thing with a guy who committed A REAL CRIME by trying to OVERTHROW AN ELECTION!

4. Lois Lerner was not a Bush appointee.

She joined the IRS in 2001 as a civil service employee and was later appointed (within the IRS, not by the President) to her final position as Director of Exempt Organizations. That position does not require a presidential appointment or Senate confirmation. Otherwise, I agree with everything in this post.
