Romney family buys voting machines through Bain Capital investment
Tagg Romney, the son of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, has purchased electronic voting machines that will be used in the 2012 elections in Ohio, Texas, Oklahoma, Washington and Colorado.
"Late last month, Gerry Bello and Bob Fitrakis at FreePress.org broke the story of the Mitt Romney/Bain Capital investment team involved in H.I.G. Capital which, in July of 2011, completed a "strategic investment" to take over a fair share of the Austin-based e-voting machine company Hart Intercivic," according to independent journalist Brad Friedman.
But Friedman is not the only one to discover the connection between the Romney family, Bain Capital, and ownership of voting machines.

(2,730 posts)I thought the state's had control of voting machines. I had no idea companies or individuals controled voting machines? I don't think our voting machines should be owned by private individuals or companies period.

This is SO blatant, why can't Ohio do something about it?!?
Oh, wait. They did.

(4,695 posts)to a new election judge on a specified date. Present election judges cannot assure that a machine is functioning correctly with my voted decision. I want a printout just like I want a receipt from any other counting machine; example, a cash register at a store.
When Texas had recounts in the past, the county election judge knew how each voter voted. There is a history in to recounts in Texas. County judges have lost that right with voting machines. Tampering with attendance on a state record is a felony in Texas. In my opinion, machine checked attendance/voting is tampering with state records. GOP has used voting machine attendance to say that certain persons on the printout can not be in attendance at the upcoming election. We the People need to have our say past the US Dept. of Justice.

(1,269 posts)where the US sent observers to watch out for fraud. They came to the conclusion there was fraud because the exit polling had so clearly indicated that one man had won, when the results gave victory to the other. This is exactly what happened to Kerry. Exit polls everywhere showed him winning. He lost.
Are they playing with our votes electronically? Absolutely.

(6,891 posts)are too important to be decided by voters. Or, as Uncle Joe is credited with saying: "It doesn't matter who votes. What matters is who counts the votes," but here in Amurka the monied elite like to hedge their bets by suppressing turnout also, just to keep the popular vote close enough to make it easier to defend the machine count in close elections.

(47,675 posts)(ahem) BULLSHIT! Name one chain store or gas station that doesn't give you a receipt whether you ask for it or not. It's an inexpensive device. Hell, they already charge way more for the machines than they're worth. Running paper trail with a voter receipt? Serialize both? Two receipts, one to keep and one to drop in a box?
There's no such thing as a "recount" with these machines. They'll just give you the same bullshit numbers they did the first time. Thirty dollars worth of Radio Shack parts will let you hack one. Add another 30 if you want to do it wireless.
Paper is the only way we can be sure, and yes, the fucking media will have to wait a little longer.
