Sheriff says ALICE training saved Michigan students' lives - NewsNation Now

The shooting at a Michigan high school Tuesday could have been much worse if many students hadn’t instantly put their active shooter training to work.

“The kids in the school showed a lot of poise and grace under very difficult circumstances.” Jim Maxwell, a former FBI agent who teaches active shooter drills, said on Banfield.

Why? Because we had adults in both political parties running our government and they took the threats seriously and NEGOTIATED a nuclear arms treaty with our enemies.

The solution was recognizing that each nuclear country had enough nuclear weapons to destroy each other with no one winning.

Danger of Mutually Assured Destruction

In the two decades since [after] the end of World War Two, both the USA and the USSR had greatly increased their stockpiles of nuclear weapons. The power of these weapons had increased significantly, while delivery methods had grown and improved.

The threat of Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD) created fear. This theory assumed that each superpower had enough nuclear weaponry to destroy the other. If one superpower attempted a first strike on the other, they themselves would also be destroyed. However, the MAD theory implied that both would be deterred from doing so.

In today's world, it is believed by some that the more guns we have the safer we are. Tell that to the families whose children have been KILLED in school or on our city streets.

...after "Beautiful Mind" John Nash, who developed the math behind it. Although Nash's research was originally classified the US made a point of sharing it with the Russians so they would understand the importance of how it is supposed to work. The Russians were initially very reluctant to accept the conclusions, but eventually they did and as a result we made it through the Cold War without a nuclear exchange. This was possible because the Russians had some very smart people building their systems and advising their leaders. The same thing doesn't work with guns because too many people are basically too stupid to understand the consequences of their actions until it's too late.
