Lawrence ODonnell details the GOP infighting that Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, chair of the Democratic Caucus, describes as a meltdown while House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy stays silent. The party is so dysfunctional that Rep. Lauren Boebert has yet to be held accountable for her anti-Muslim attacks against Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar. Aired on 12/02/2021.

(14,492 posts)Republicans seem to create chaos on the surface when our Party has a majority but we can rest assured they are unified behind the scenes to stall or block everything we want to do. Chaos and disorder is a feature of fascism and Russian public control techniques.
On the other hand, when they have a majority I don't recall much of a fuss from them at all and they're mostly silent, and again unified but instead to implement their horrible policies. I think that's to give the public an illusion that things are back to "normal"
Chaos and disorder is creating a distrust in everything to do with government so that our public becomes complacent and disinterested and with all heads spinning. Spinning heads need a strong leader for relief and that's what Rethugs found in tRump.
Sounds to me like McCarthy is the one that now needs to be brought before Congress to be held accountable....
KY rant done. Needed that off my chest.....

(205,467 posts)I have to mention what's infuriating me, which is why we're fortunate to have DU. I look at some of these elected officials who are so obviously unqualified and causing rancor and chaos rather than doing the people's work and can't see any appeal to voters. But with the worst Republicans, it's not a bug, it's a feature. Their aim is to stir un anger and hatred among their constituents - and we've seen the results, election volunteers and school board members being targeted and threatened. There needs to be consequences for this behavior, but you're right, it's not going to come from their "leader." We've heard his previous statements and he's done a 180 - he's running scared - of TFG. Now TFG is the one who needs to be removed - from the national discourse and from society altogether. He may have been removed from "social media," his irresponsibility and lies are that bad - but he needs to be removed from the national discourse altogether.

(50,954 posts)be in every voter's face and there should be an enduring message of republiQan disarray, disunity, inability to get anything done.
There should be a warehouse of 78 well paid bots seeding stories about this all over social media. (It turns out that 80% of Covid misinformation originated with 78 twitter accounts - why can't we have bots? The difference would be that our bots spread true stories.)
This is a messaging opportunity. It is passing us by.

(35,680 posts)Would be a good message to emphasize. Here is an example on the state level:
We were told at a teachers union meeting that with Christie as governor, 2 bills regarding education passed.
With Murphy, 44 bills passed.
Two vs. 44. Who is doing the work?

(50,954 posts)we were told in the meeting the bills were favorable to public education.
And yes, those benefits should be communicated.
But my point is this: that stuck in my mind and I'm a Democrat. Imagine if you were independent how that might strike you? It's a stark difference and it tells the story of who is obstructing and who is working on behalf of the public.
No surprise to anyone here: republicans have no plan. They are only there to get close to the taxpayer kitty so they can steal as much as they can. The less money that goes to people, the better. The more money that goes to contractors, like defense, the better the ability to insert oneself into that process for purposes of graft. That's what it's all about for them.

(35,680 posts)I just love Hakeem. There is something about himI think it might be his down to earth quality. There is not a phony bone in his body. What you see is what you get.
His exact opposite is Kevin McCarthy, McCarthy looks like the shyster that he is. Notice that McCarthy will never look the camera or interviewer in the eye. His very being epitomizes evasiveness.
Also I liked it that Nancy was incredulous over the question about messaging and said as much. It must be really hard to have to put up with such absurd questions. Its like these reporters have never learned how American government works.
