for me he hit the ringer every punch line, and I'm hard to please.

He's talked about the challenges of performing without an audience - especially for a comedian. When he was performing from home, his wife and kids were both his audience - and his crew.

Performers draw energy projected from the audience they perform to. That energy gives the performer the capability to give it their all and then some. it is an amazing experience. That energy flows both ways. Hard to describe.
