because: 1) they don't want to put up with the assholes! 2) employers make it impossible to plan non-work activities or even hold a 2nd job because the work hours constantly change and 3) workers can't get 40 hours.

This is just my personal experience. Two people in my immediate family have transitioned out of the workforce and chosen to dramatically downsize. It's not worth it.
