Not advocating revoking term limits for POTUS, but I cannot imagine anyone else occupying the white House through calamitous economic times and a world war.

fierce resistance FDR faced every step of the way, led by Republican media.

1932 39.6% voted for 4 more Hoover, the coup attenpt by DuPont et al, 1936, the resistance to stopping Hitler right up through Pearl Harbor - until Hiltler declared war on the US 4 days later. 1944 even.

Only family member (in the 30s & 40s) out of about 10 to do so. Everyone else were stanch Dems. The arguments over the weekly family dinners every Friday could be fierce, according to my mother. Wish I could go back in time to hear them.

My other grandfather liked FDR.

[Guessing that the family was able to save the family farm, barely, in the Depression, thanks to FDR].

[There was a slave-owner back in the family bloodline - maybe its, 'whats the gov done for me lately'?]
