(although secretly I hope so as it would mean I get a deployment on my record and my family wouldn't be able to tell me no).

But really, I really really really won't want that. Unnecessary deaths, war being stupid, etc.

I went with my grandmother and her peace group back in the late '80s before the USSR fell. The main aim was to visit "our" sister town (my grandmother was living in Black Mountain, NC, and the "sister town" was Krasnaya Polyana, 2 hours up in the Caucasus Mountains and I was invited to "make up the numbers" since they needed 17 to make the trip), but we visited several cities and met with Soviet peace groups and the Russian people to not want war.

They were devastated by WWII which was fought on their own soil - there are monuments all over and even the smallest schools, like the one in our sister town, have plaques honoring former students who died in that war and special rooms set aside where current students can learn about the war. I remember one older lady, who had served as a nurse during WWII, said "Please, when you go back, tell your president that we want peace." So the people don't want war, though I can't speak for Putin.
