Does The Type Of Conservative 'The View' Is Seeking Exist? - All In - MSNBC

Since Meghan McCain left the show, producers at “The View” have been seeking out a conservative to take her place. But the kind of person they’re looking for—the so-called "reasonable Republican"—has become an endangered species. Aired on 12/27/2021.

Interesting thought and you're right, she's what they're looking for, not that I think she'd do it Rhiannon12866 Dec 2021 #3

She'd be a prime candidate for that slot. Not that I consider her reasonable in general, but her strong response since 1/6 gives the perception of a reasonable republican. And it would put or keep her in the national spotlight, with her conservative views.
Just a wacky thought. I don't watch the view and don't really care who's on the show.

And I don't watch the show, either, but I thought this was an interesting take on Republicans today.

There's plenty of conservative women who meet that criteria. The problems are:

1) They aren't already famous in some way.

2) They aren't necessarily beautiful or telegenic.

3) They aren't necessarily great performers in front of the camera.

4) They aren't necessarily informed enough to hold their own in a conversation even though they're smart enough to be informed if they cared to be.

5) They don't necessarily want to move.

6) They don't necessarily want that job.

They're only looking at the pool of women who are already-famous conservatives who are telegenic and are skilled in front of a camera...which automatically eliminates the vast majority of conservative women.

I've got a sister-in-law who could do the job but they'd never be able to convince her to move from Colorado. She's done her share of traveling the world to meetings and living out of a suitcase. She's retired from the city and couldn't be motivated by money or fame to return.

But the show would never find her to offer her the job because they aren't looking for competent people who aren't already famous. That's just the nature of that business.

And what woman who fits that description - who is not already experienced/well known - would want the pressure of being outnumbered by experienced/informed women who have been doing this for years?

If I were younger, and a conservative lady, I'd love it.

But I'd also want a computer with access to the mainstream media so I could prove my points in a couple of seconds directly from the NY Times, Washington Post, etc.

Being better than the current cast of women on The View isn't a very high hurdle. It's not like there's three journalists and a lawyer on the panel like it was when they first started out.

No one is granted a huge depth of historical and current events knowledge plus policy knowledge by putting the adjective "liberal" in front of the job title "comedian" or "entertainer".

Someone who was only moderately sharp could catch those kinds of people out on enough factual errors that it'd cast doubt on most everything else they said (thus creating great television plus a lot of bitter in-fighting behind the scenes).

What the producers of the show don't realize is that they don't need someone famous. They need someone who is an information-junkie and who doesn't give a rip about making friends on the show.

The conservative might crash-and-burn in the long run but they'll give the show two glorious years and force the liberals on the show to step up their game.
