(21,400 posts)will sanction it. This court believes that states have absolute power to run their elections. All the fascists have to do is win back the House in 2022.

(2,065 posts)The Democrats came back into power, and instead of getting to the heart of the issue, which was efforts by the Republicans to subvert democracy while they were out of power, what do they do? They obsequiously try to curry favor by playing Santa Claus and passing alll this legislation that gives relief and goodies to the American people - not that the American people don't need relief after a devastating COVID pandemic and the hard times it brought, but they got their basic priorities wrong, in my opinion. They should have been much more prompt and aggressive in passing legislation to protect and preserve voting rights. I can assure you that if the Republicans come back into power, the first thing they will do is to pass draconian measures that will solidify and make their un-democratic power grab more lasting and permanent - and to heck with giving the people anything or catering to their needs. This whole idea of passing legislation to give goodies and relief to the people to curry favor with them is ass-backwards, in my opinion. There really shouldn't need to be any excuses for standing up and passing legislation to protect democracy and the right to vote. All American citizens should inherently understand the fundamental importance of ensuring that their voting voices are heard. And the fact that so many Americans on the other side of the aisle don't see this, and fall for the misleading partisan rhetoric of protecting America from the terrible, even demonic liberals, is another thing that frightens me terribly about the future of our nation. After all, the supreme legacy of our nation is the idea of democracy, and a government in which the voice of the people - all the people - count, and are heard; without that, we won't even have a country anymore. It's sooo frightening that so much of the voting populace is too dumbed down to see this, and gets lost in the ugly partisan rhetoric ginned up by the GOP these days, which is, in reality, nothing more than a front or cover / pretext for stealing our democracy and giving themsleves exclusive, autocratic control of the country.
